Idle Potato Game Guide
From your first click to your first prestige. Market timing, upgrade paths, generator slots, and everything the codes-only sites won't tell you.
What is Idle Potato Game?
Idle Potato Game is a 2D incremental clicker on Roblox by Smooth Brain Games. You start with one potato plant, click to harvest, sell on a real-time fluctuating market, and reinvest into upgrades and generators. The prestige system adds permanent multipliers that make each run faster. With 200+ upgrades, 300+ achievements, and a collectible potato trading system, there's way more depth here than the name suggests.
This guide covers everything from your first click to your first prestige and beyond. The strategies come from actual gameplay: when to sell, which upgrades to prioritize, how to manage generator slots, and optimal prestige timing. If you haven't already, grab all the free codes from our codes page before you start. Those free Golden Potatoes make the early game way smoother.

Understanding the Market
This is the mechanic that separates Idle Potato Game from every other clicker. Potato prices fluctuate in real time — they refresh every ~30 seconds, and the difference between selling at the right vs wrong time is huge.
Regular Potatoes: Price swings between $0.44 and $2.60+. Sell when it's above $2. Below $1? Hold and wait.
Golden Potatoes: Price swings between $28 and $280+. Sell above $150 for maximum profit. Below $50? Definitely hold.
Early on, manual selling at high prices earns you way more than Auto Sell. Once you're past your first prestige and generating tons of potatoes, Auto Sell becomes worth it for convenience.

Generator Strategy
Generators produce potatoes automatically. You have about 10 slots total, and that limit matters. You can't just stack 50 Seedlings. Here's the tier list from weakest to strongest:
Key tip: Delete low-tier generators to free up slots for Greenhouses. A full set of Greenhouses beats a mixed bag of Seedlings + Gardens + Farms every time.
Prestige Guide
Unlock requirement: 500,000 potatoes to see the prestige panel. $2,000,000 cash to actually prestige.
What happens: You lose all upgrades and generators. You keep your codes rewards and colored potatoes. You gain a permanent multiplier that applies to all future runs.
When to prestige: As soon as you hit $2M. Don't wait. The multiplier makes your next run significantly faster, and the second prestige also costs $2M, so you'll reach it quicker each time.
After 10 prestiges: You unlock Ascension, a second layer of prestige with even bigger permanent multipliers. This is the real endgame loop.
Prestige bonuses: After each prestige you can choose a bonus direction (like Generator Bonus). Pick what fits your playstyle — generator-focused players should take Generator Bonus, clickers should take click multipliers.

FAQ
What should I do first as a new player?
Redeem all active codes (check our codes page) for free Potatoes and Golden Potatoes. Then turn on the free auto clicker in Settings. After that, click potatoes, sell them when the market price is decent, and buy your first upgrade (Toughen Hands, $1,000). Don't overthink it early on — just keep clicking and selling.
When should I sell my potatoes?
Prices refresh every ~30 seconds. For regular potatoes, sell when the price is above $2 (it can drop to $0.44). For Golden Potatoes, wait for $150+ (they can spike to $280+). If you're impatient, buy Auto Sell — but manual selling at high prices earns you way more early on.
When is the right time to prestige?
You need 500K potatoes to unlock the prestige panel and $2M cash to actually prestige. Do it as soon as you hit $2M — don't wait. The permanent multiplier makes your next run significantly faster, and the second prestige costs the same $2M so you'll get there quicker each time.
Should I delete low-level generators?
Yes. Generator slots are limited (~10 total). Once you can afford Greenhouses ($35K each), start replacing Potato Seedlings and Gardens. A full set of Greenhouses produces way more than a mix of low and mid-tier generators. Quality over quantity.
What are colored potatoes and how do I get them?
Blue and Pink Potatoes are special collectibles that permanently boost your click output when equipped. You get Blue Potato from the code BLUEPOTATO and Pink Potato from POTATOLOVE. Other rare potatoes (Mechanical, Diamond, Crystal, Purple Majesty) drop from gameplay or Mystery Boxes. Each one has a unique passive bonus.
