What is Catch and Feed a Brainrot?

Mutations and variants are the two systems that multiply your Brainrot's income in Catch and Feed a Brainrot. They work differently and understanding the distinction is the first step to maximizing your earnings. Mutations are purchased from the Potions Shop and can be stacked — meaning you can apply multiple mutations to the same Brainrot and their multipliers add together. Variants are random rare forms that your Brainrot can take, but only one variant can be active at a time. The key difference: mutations stack additively, variants multiply the total. This is where the real money is.

There are currently eight Brainrot mutations in the game. Vampire sits at the top with a x12 multiplier — reportedly added in a recent update and only confirmed by one source so far. Rainbow (Mythical, x10) and Crystal (Legendary, x9) are your next best picks. Glitch (Legendary, x8) costs $246.7QT but delivers solid returns. Mid-tier options include Sparkle (Epic, x4) and Bloodrot (Epic, x3.5). Budget players start with Lightning (Rare, x3 at $67.2T) and Wet (Uncommon, x2 at $4.5B). All mutations are bought from the Potions Shop, which restocks on a timer — check back regularly because the good ones sell out.

Variants are simpler. Four exist: Shiny (x5), Void (x4), Diamond (x3), and Gold (x2). These are random rare forms your Brainrot can take. You can only have one active variant at a time, so Shiny is always the goal. Unlike mutations, you can't buy variants — they appear randomly when your Brainrot evolves or through specific gameplay triggers.

Here's where it gets interesting: the multiplier formula. Your total multiplier is calculated as Variant × (Mutation1 + Mutation2 + Mutation3 + ...). Mutations are added together first because they stack, then the variant multiplies the sum. Example: a Void variant (x4) with Lightning (x3) and Glitch (x8) gives you 4 × (3 + 8) = 44x total multiplier. That's why stacking mutations matters so much — each new mutation you add gets amplified by your variant.

For the absolute best combo, you want Shiny variant (x5) with every mutation stacked. If you could stack all eight mutations: Vampire (12) + Rainbow (10) + Crystal (9) + Glitch (8) + Sparkle (4) + Bloodrot (3.5) + Lightning (3) + Wet (2) = 51.5 total mutation sum. Multiply by Shiny's x5 and you get x257.5. Realistically, most players focus on the top 3-4 mutations first since the cheaper ones barely move the needle once you have Vampire and Rainbow running.

Fruit mutations are a separate system that affects experience points, not income. When you grow fruit on your farm, fruit pump, or potion-infused plant farm, the fruit can mutate into better versions. Letting plants grow longer increases the chance of a better mutation. The progression goes: Chill (~322.0 QT XP), Gold (≥18.0 ST XP), Diamond (~441.7 ST XP), Shiny (≥994.4 ST XP), and Void (≥90 OT XP). Void fruit mutations give the most XP by far. The current best plant is Durian, which grows passively — just let it sit and collect. Feed mutated fruit to your Brainrots to level them up faster.

To get mutations, head to the Potions Shop in-game. The shop stocks different mutations at different times, and restocking takes a while. When you see a high-tier mutation available, buy it immediately — waiting means someone else grabs it or the shop rotates. Mutations are permanent once applied, so there's no risk in buying early. Stack them as you can afford them, prioritizing the highest multiplier ones first. For a full ranking of which mutations and Brainrots give the best return, check our tier list. FAQ

What's the difference between mutations and variants?

Mutations are bought from the Potions Shop and can be stacked — multiple mutations on one Brainrot, and their multipliers add together. Variants are random rare forms (Shiny, Void, Diamond, Gold) and only one can be active at a time. The formula is Variant × (sum of all Mutations), so they work together but differently.

Can you stack mutations in Catch and Feed a Brainrot?

Yes. Mutations stack additively. If you have Lightning (x3) and Glitch (x8), your mutation total is x11. That sum then gets multiplied by your active variant. Stacking is the entire point — one mutation alone is decent, but three or four together is where the income explodes.

What's the best mutation combo for maximum income?

Shiny variant (x5) with Vampire (x12) + Rainbow (x10) + Crystal (x9) stacked gives you 5 × 31 = x155 multiplier. Add Glitch (x8) and you're at 5 × 39 = x195. The theoretical max with all eight mutations and Shiny is x257.5, but getting there takes serious cash.

How do I get mutations from the Potions Shop?

Walk to the Potions Shop in-game and check what's in stock. The shop rotates its inventory and restocking takes time. When you see a high-tier mutation, buy it right away. Prices range from $4.5B (Wet) to $964.3ST (Rainbow). Save up for the expensive ones — they're worth it.

What are fruit mutations and how do they work?

Fruit mutations affect the XP your fruit gives when fed to Brainrots. Grow fruit on your farm or fruit pump and let it sit longer for better mutations. The tiers go Chill → Gold → Diamond → Shiny → Void, with Void giving ≥90 OT XP. Better fruit = faster Brainrot leveling.

Is the Vampire mutation real?

Vampire (x12) has been reported by Destructoid but isn't listed on every source yet. It may have been added in a recent update. If you see it in the Potions Shop, grab it — x12 is the highest single mutation multiplier in the game.

Do variants stack with mutations?

Yes, but not the way mutations stack with each other. Variants multiply the total mutation sum. So if your mutations add up to x20 and you have a Void variant (x4), your total is x80. You can only have one variant active, so always aim for Shiny (x5) as it gives the highest multiplier.
